HONORS   MARINE   SCIENCE   RESEARCH   PAPER

SUBJECT:  This paper must research an area relevant to the subject of Marine Science

LENGTH:  Your paper must be a minimum of 6 pages typed, double spaced, all margins no more than 1 inch in width. Do not skip lines in between paragraphs.  Use 12 point, no bold use default font (Times New Roman).  These 6 pages do not include the title page, picture or bibliography.  You must have a visual to go in the written report.

SOURCES:  The research paper must contain information from at least six sources.  All of these sources must be periodicals, WEB pages or research journals, no encyclopedias or books.  Goggle and Yahoo are not web pages, they are search engines and Wikipedia is not a valid source.  None of your sources can be over 3 years old.

ORAL REPORT:  You will be expected to make an oral report to the class upon completion of your research paper.  This will be in the form of a Power Point presentation.  The Power Point Presentation will be between 6 and 10 slides and there must be at least 1 picture or graph.

NOTE CARDS:  You will organize your references on note cards.  You will use one note card per reference as a bibliography card and it should include the author, year of publication (or posting), name of the article (or web site), name of sources (if it is an article), or web address.  If using a web site you must also put the day you accessed it.   An article will also include volume and page number.  These note cards should be sequentially numbered as you write them to assist you in writing your paper and taking quotes from the source.  All of the notes that you take from your references should also be on note cards.  Put a number in the upper left hand corner that corresponds to the number of the source the information comes from.  The card should then be titled according information it contains.  THERE SHOULD ONLY BE ONE PIECE OF INFORMATION PER NOTE CARD.  SEE SAMPLE BELOW.

Direct quotes look like this:  “Mass beachings in dolphins seems to occur when there is an unknown illness running through the pod”(Shapiro, 2008).
